Chapter 2

Hi ladies! How is the reading coming? I hope you are finding the book, easy to read and understand. Chapter 1 was such a wakeup call for me the first time I read it. The idea that we are going through life completely unaware at times that there is a real war going on around us, really woke me up! Through reading this book I have felt a deep sense of responsibility as a leader of you teens girls to equip you with the tools you need to fight on the front lines. One of the best quotes in chapter 1 is: "A country that sent its soldiers into battle armed with spit wads would be a farce." Isn't that so true!? If we saw on the news tomorrow soldiers in Iraq with hockey sticks and water guns as weapons we would be outraged! We want you armed with every possible weapon you can carry, because like it or not there IS a battle and we better be ready! So, my desire through this little book study together is that you will come out of it with AK47's instead of water guns :) Chapter 1 was a wake up call and now Chapter 2 is an introduction to our enemy. We better get to know him...Here are the questions that we will be answering in Chapter 2:

Satan and His Kingdom

Chapter 2

1. before reading chapter 2, when you thought of Satan how did you in vision him?

2. What did Satan look like, physically?

3. What did God call him? (pg. 23)

4. What was the reason for Satan’s fall?

5. It says that 1/3 of the angels joined satan. They were deceived by satan. Do you think that’s a big deal? Why should that be a big deal to us?

Any thoughts/questions/comments???

Can't wait to hear your answers and thoughts! Love you girls and am loving getting suited up for battle along side you!

  4. Personally I thought this chapter was interesting. Here goes!
#1 When i thought of Satan i in-visioned him as a red and black angel (dragon) thing, that was evil.

#2 Satan is a spiritual being that doesn't have a physical body.

#3 God called him "the anointed cherubim" (the chosen angelic guardian).

#4 Satan's was prideful and self-centered, of his majesty and wisdom, which caused his fall. He thought he could be like God.
One thing i thought was interesting was that most of our sins we commit revolve around pride and being self centered.

5# If Satan can deceive 1/3 of the angels to follow him. This is definitely a big deal. This means that it is probably easier for him to trick us humans by tempering with our minds making us doubt what we think is true.

  5. #1. Well, for awhile I had always thought of Satan with the little horns and tail, but I've always known that not to be true. Uhm, I dont know that I have been trying to match him with a physical body lately though. But I do automatically think of red/black/evil like Anna said.

    #2 and #3. I agree. =]

#4. That part of this chapter caught my attention. Something that Ive been thinking about or had questions about for awhile was what was really the first sin, and I had never taken into consideration that Satan was the first to fall due to his pride.

#5. I also really liked this part of the chapter becuase I have wondered how Satan could be in a lot of places at once even though he isn't omnipresent like God. So now it makes sense know that 1/3 of the angels follwed him and are working against us also. As far as being decieved by Satan, I agree with Anna- if Satan could trick spiritual beings than how much easier would it be for him to trick us?

  6. Mornin' guys! I thought I'd hurry and get a few comments in here before Wendy posts next week's questions. :) A couple things about this chapter... What always seems to be in the forefront of my mind in studying Satan or any portion of scripture is trying to understand it to the point of being able to explain it out. For me, I wanted to to do this study on Satan because on our little four family team in South America, there are differing ideas on what Satan can do...and what his co-hort demons can do. So my desire is to "get" this to the point that I can coherently share it (not to bang on the heads of those I work with, but that it could be available if I need to speak up). In thinking along those lines, I liked how Dennis lays out the places in the Bible where it seems like we learn the origin of Satan. These are good references to get into our mind so that if we need to investigate we know where to go. So that's one thing I liked about this chapter...how he organizes well the passages of the origin of Satan.

The other thing that God is doing for me through this Satan study is giving me a character sketch of Satan. And in knowing the character of Satan, I can MUCH more easily figure out where some of the weird ideas or thoughts in my mind are coming from. From this chapter, these are a few characteristics of Satan that I noticed:

    1. Full of wisdom and beautiful at his creation
    2. Because of his wisdom and beauty, he thinks of himself too highly (pride) and falls away from a loving relationship with God
    3. "When Satan rebelled, he became the supreme accuser of God's character" (p. 24)
    4. He is also very persuasive as he talked 1/3 of the angels to follow his lead...most likely through deception

So when I am tempted to think of God in a way that the Bible clearly says God is not...I am playing into Satan's game. And on top of that, he usually isn't OBVIOUS about trying to get us to think of God in a negative way. It will most likely be through DECEPTION. I tell you what, he is a dangerous trickster that is out for blood.

  7. I have a quick comment about #5. The fact that 1/3 of the angels followed him totally shocked me. Like Tam said that fact that he deceived and persuaded that many of God's angels to go with him, shows us how deceptive and smart he is. These are angels that lived with God, had seen God, yet still chose to follow Satan! That shows how cunning and manipulative he really is!
